Artist's Comments

This pic was actually inspired by my latin class when we were learning about the Greek gods and goddesses. One of them was Artemis, goddess of the moon and handicrafts. So in a sense, my latin class was my inspiration...finally, a use for school!

I actually really liked how this turned out. And yes, I did notice the tree was purple because i intentionally colored it that way. Everything purple is really supposed to be the background, and the main attraction, is of course, Artemis. The things I tried to get your attention on was of course, her pupil-less eyes, which represented how "inhuman" she was, and her jade beads, giving her a sense of exotic-ness. Of course, the gold is really brought out too, but I honestly didn't want it that way.

The real thing that really makes this piece different than the others is that I used the pen tool on this... THANK GOD FOR THE PEN TOOL! It made really pretty lines that I could easily change the color of. It gave a really soft feel to this pic.

I hadn't really done fantasy...ever...so I wanted to try it. If you hadn't read this, you probably could've guessed it was an elfen princess or something, but that's okay too.

This looks pretty good! I'm glad you found a line art technique that works for you. Only suggestion is maybe to have made the eyelids black instead of grey. I understand her glowiness, but it would help draw focus to her more. Right now, with everything being in the middle of the value scale it seemed a bit too glowy. Does that make sense? I really like this pic btw, and I had to make a comment because of all the greek gods, this is the main one in my comic series, Eclipse. Just thought it was a nice coincidence.

yeah, i had been making eyelashes black instead of any other color for a while, but then I thought about people's real eye lashes. People actually have eyelashes that match the color of their hair. And I wanted her to have a sense of purtity, and the slightest bit of taint, such as the color black, could ruin it...even the dark purple embroider bothered me a little...^^'

I totally agree about making her look more focused though...I had blurred the lineart when I was just playing with the finished product. :XD: and she looks a little too glowy cuz her hair's glowy and it surrounds her...so yeah.

Is she really the main god in your comic series? she usually doesn't get much attention. that is a coincidence...artistic minds think alike, i suppose.

Yeah, if there's one thing I've learned about computer coloring it's try to refrain from blurring much of anything, especially line art. And another thing I've learned about coloring on the computer is to remember that if you're coloring anime, don't get to in depth with it. Eyelash colors may match hair color in reality, but unless you're drawing a realistic drawing, you don't need to get that detailed. Especially when the contrast is as different as black to white. You might get away with dark red, but not white. I hope that helped.

And yeah, the main character, Emily Cannon, has to take the place of the goddess of the moon. In the series, most people call the goddess of the moon Luna Crescent, but Artemis is her real name obviously.

well, there are actually many levels of anime. It varies from simple to highly detailed. I guess I just wanted a little more detailed anime.

Well she actually has a lot of names...there's also Selene and Diana. depends what culture you're talking about.

I see. *assumes thinking pose* I'm not too familiar with anime so I wouldn't know. Thanks for the info.
